Water from the Cité Scolaire, the General and Technical high school on Route de la Savane in St Martin, has been declared unsafe to drink due to contamination.
The Prefecture has clarified that the pollution is linked to a long stagnation period of the water on the site, and not to poor quality of the water distributed by the network.
The water contamination and its turbidity mean it’s not fit for drinking although it can be used for washing hands.
Maintenance Operations at the school took place on Sunday, October 15. Controlled tests will be carried out on Monday and will continue until water quality returns to normal, which they expect to be achieved by the end of the week.
During this period, bottled water will be available to students and staff.
