Cargo ship from Netherlands brings supplies and weather station to St Maarten


On Saturday, October 7, the cargo ship Cygnus arrived at the port of Philipsburgh in St Maarten, according to the local government, bringing pressure sprayers, water tanks and chemicals to disinfect high priority areas.

Also on board the Cygnus, a complete meteorological station, school bags and other education materials as well as nine trucks to assist Gebe, the energy company, to restore overhead lines.

The meteorological station is expected to be transported from the seaport to the airport on Monday.

The Cygnus is chartered by the Dutch ministry of Interior Affairs and Kingdom Relations (BZK). Recently BZK also chartered the vessel Aniek, which brought in food, water and garbage trucks to the island.
